What is mould toolmaking?

Mould toolmaking is the manufacture of precision tools used to produce rubber or plastic components in controlled quantities, from specialist one-off applications through to high-volume production. It is used for critical components such as sealing systems, technical gaskets, vibration mounts and complex geometries required for both prototyping and full-scale manufacture.

Tools can be produced from soft alloys, pre-toughened steels or fully hardened materials, resulting in durable production tooling that consistently performs under pressure and delivers repeatable, high-quality parts. When correctly engineered and built, these tools provide long-term reliability, ensuring production processes run efficiently with minimal variation and downtime.

Mould toolmaking relies on the expertise of time-served engineers who understand both design intent and real-world manufacturing conditions. It brings together precision CNC machining, EDM spark erosion and wire cutting, surface and cylindrical grinding, and meticulous hand fitting to achieve the tight tolerances, surface finishes and operational reliability required by modern moulding environments.
